Romans 8:38-39 KJV “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
The price has been paid. Jesus covered our debts. So there is nothing that can make God withdraw his love from us. He’s always there watching, waiting, whispering, working and wanting to speak with us. But it’s our sinful actions that make us feel far from him. God loves us enough to never to turn his back on us. So it’s our duty to learn to love him enough to never sin against him.
Idolatry and lack of faith are the roots of sin.
•When we idolize our feelings we act out of anger.
•When we idolize our emotions we act out of un-forgiveness.
•When we idolize pleasure we act out of substance abuse.
•When we idolize ourselves we act out of pride and judgement.
•When we idolize people we act out of fornication.
•When we idolize lifestyles we act of jealousy and envy.
•When we idolize comfort we act out of escapism.
•When we don’t believe that Gods ability to handle injustice the best way that he sees fit will be fair enough we act out of revenge.
•When we don’t have faith that Gods love can comfort us we turn to alcohol and drugs.
•When we don’t have faith that Gods pleasure can satisfy us we indulge in fornication and adultery.
•When we don’t have the faith that Gods strength is enough we have doubt.
•When we don’t have the faith that God protection will keep us secure we have anxiety.
Once idolatry and a lack of faith take root in our mind it opens the door for sin to enter our lives. Sin stinks in the nostrils of God. So if there is nothing that can make him not love us that means we are the ones who can’t be in his presence when we are living in sin. This reminds me of the verse in Isaiah 59:2 “There’s nothing wrong with God; the wrong is in you. Your wrongheaded lives caused the split between you and God. Your sins got between you so that he doesn’t hear.” Sin clouds are judgement and ability to see and hear God. This is due to condemnation. The enemy uses our sin to make us feel like we aren’t worthy enough or good enough to pray, read the word, talk with God. He makes us think “you just did this last night so you can’t go to church” he makes us think that because of our actions God isn’t just disappointed but disinterested in dealing with us. This is a trick to get us further separated on the path to deeper depths of sin.
Gods love leads us in conviction. Conviction brings us closer to God. Conviction reveals the realization that because God loves us more than anything I should love him more than I love my feelings more than I love my preferences more than I love my desires. There is nothing to big or to small that you can do or have done that will make God close the doors to his throne room. If you find yourself indulging in sinful practice it’s ok to pray for help and assistance. If you struggle constantly admit to God and ask for his help.
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. So even death can’t separate us from Gods love. But we don’t want to die while living in sin because then sin will be dwelling in our temple which will lead us to be eternally separated from God. So repent today for your sins big or small. Repent wholeheartedly ! Release the shame of the past and set your mind on Jesus because his love is everlasting unlike the fleeting emotions and desires of our carnal mind and pleasures of the world.
