Give God What’s Due.

Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, And into his courts with praise: Be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

When we wake up in the morning our minds and attention should be the first thing we give to God because he gave us another opportunity at life, another chance to get closer to him, another opportunity to purse him. Gratefulness and thankfulness opens the door for more blessings. When we are grateful and thankful we steward our time, money, resources, and relationships differently. This is a sign of possessional maturity. This is the ability to have healthy attachments and boundaries in relationships, and to appreciate material possessions without becoming overly attached or controlling. It’s about understanding that true maturity involves respecting individuals and not having a possessive or controlling attitude towards them or things because everything was given.

When we lack possessional maturity we loose sight  and idolize our relationships and resources over our relationship with God. This is why we pray when we are in need and things go bad but when we get comfortable we began to neglect our relationship with God once again. Yet he still is faithful and understanding and slow to anger. But this is a cycle that is from the fruit of entitlement.

We subconsciously feel like God owes us answered prayers, that he owes us relief from trials, that he owes us this duty to serve us. The reality is that we owe him the duty to serve him in submission. It’s through this submission that we understand that everything we receive is a gift that is received, from to the ability to walk, talk and think on our own to receiving financial blessings and opportunities.

We didn’t earn the right to wake up after a night of rest it’s a gift we receive from his grace and mercy. We haven’t earned any blessing in his sight because our righteousness as humans is like a filthy rag in his presence.

  • “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away..” -Isaiah 64:6

Because the world is self centered, self exalting, self righteous and self loving we get entitled so easily and think we DESERVE the blessings from God. He doesn’t owe us anything! So before we pray and begin to ask him for more blessings sit in his presence and thank him for the blessings we are already living in. Before we get impatient and move on our own accord thank him for the ability to make our own decisions first. Then ask him to validate our decisions if they align with HIS will & NOT OUR DESIRE. Thank God today. For EVERYTHING. Because his grace is sufficient and his mercy is everlasting.
